What's up for 2012? We'll let you know, as soon as we know....

MR. & MRS. MOOSE TAKE " MR. TOAD'S WILD RIDE!"
THIS IS GONNA BE A LONG ONE...Grab a toddy and get comfy!!
After months and months of planning it was finally here - the family trip to Cancun, Mexico!!
All of Tom's family were meeting up for the first time in over 3 years - Robin & Rick run a travel
business - Sertich Getaways, and every year they get a bunch of people to take a trip to the
all inclusive resort of Playa De Maya. As it would have it, in years past the weekend of the trip has
always been the same as Moose Racing's largest race of the uear, The Oval Nationals at Perris Auto Speedway.
This year, they moved their traditional trip back a week, in thoughts that would free us up and able to
make the trip. Tom's mom, Carol really wanted all her boys and their spouses to spend some
quality time together, just kicking back, having no cares or worries about housekeeping, cooking etc.
( Which is how things would be if we all got together at one of the family's home) So... the calendar would
play out somewhat in a Tom & Laurie's favor. The departure date was Oct. 27th - and would return
late evening Nov. 3rd. Orignally, the decision had been that Moose Racing WOULD NOT run The Oval Nationals,
they would join the rest of the Sertich family and the 20some other people that were heading to Cancun.
After the last race at "The Pas", the postive results and the team wanting to keep the Mojo flowing, Tom & Laurie
started to figare out how they could make this all work. Ok, Tom lined up Ray to get the rig to the track -
as it needed to be there by Wed. to ensure a parking spot, the car would run the first night of the Nationals
without Mr. & Mrs. Moose.(this has happended only 1 time over the 19 years of racing competition) Tom & Laurie
would land Thursday night at John Wayne Airport about 9:30 and head to the track. ( Of coarse, all the clothes, food
etc needed for the 3 days at the track were all loaded and arranged prior to leaving on the trip)
So now - hang on and get ready for Mr. Toad's Wild Ride!!
Watching the weather predictions for Mexico for several days prior to the trip, everyone knew that there was a hurricane
heading straight for Cancun. So, in honesty, all involved figared that the trip would be cancelled. Checking with US Airlines online
every several hours, the updated would just show, check back often, under Tropical Storm Alert. But as of 5 am when
John, the PT Cruiser airport shuttle arrived, everything still showed - we're going!! Arrival at John Wayne Airport, in route to Phoenix- the gentleman
at baggage and the gate, both pulled up airlines flight info and he said that they all still showed They Were Flying!!
Arrival in Phoenix, checking the teleprompters for what gate -- 12:35 Flight To Cancun cancelled!! This was not surprising to
the Moose's and they were already planning to get on the next flight back to Orange County. Robin was at the US Airlines Customer Service
desk, finding out what the options were. Supposedly the weather prediction was that the storm had been downgraded, and if there was
hurricane type weather, it would hit that night... since the catagory had gone back down to a 1 from a 3, US felt that flights would resume
Friday am. Between the 12:35 flight and an earlier fight had both been canceled, customer services could not tell Robin that
her group of 30 some would all be together on that flight. The first gentleman she spoke to advised her that they ( US ) were trying to
bring in a larger plane (that would accomdate all ) OR have 2 flights head down there on Friday, and that they would know more about this
in several hours. The group would be responsible for overnight lodging ( since the delay was a weather deal ) One of the gentleman who was the with group
pulled some strings, and had arranged for everyone in the group to get comped rooms at a local Casino.
Everyone gathered at a little cafe/bar that happened to be right across from the customer service counter. Concerned about
her group Robin checked back a few times - only the gentleman that origanally helped her, was no there, it was another gentleman, Phil.
He really knew nothing about the 2nd or larger plane - he gave her another option: there was a plane leaving Charlotte, yes N. Carolina,
at 9 am on Friday and it had plenty of seats for the entire group to get to Cancun. It was now decision time. In looking at the weather channel, the forecast
for Cancun and the resort cities was still Tropical Storm Alert. So. fly to Charlotte in hopes of getting out? Almost everyone in the group opted to head to
Charlotte - although Tom & Laurie hadn't decided as to just head home or make the trip to Charlotte - after about 20 minutes of coaching
from the family - "heck, we're here, let's go onto Charlotte-" getting to the counter for the boarding passes they questioned where their
baggage was - they were advised that is was already on the plane to head to Charlotte-funny, as they hadn't even confirmed that they were going to
Charlotte yet!! Good thing it was decided to head to Charlotte!
Probably about 1/2 way enroute to Charlotte, Laurie decided to sign in to GOGO, the airlines WIFI, and checked on US Airlines website to
see that the flight on Friday that we were supposed to take, had already been canceled. Tom informed Robin of what Laurie had seen - apparently,
she had pulled up the US website while the plane was taxiing - and saw at that point, it had been canceled. SO, before the plane even took
off, the connecting flight Had Already Been Cancelled!! What is really sad about this is this: 5 of the people that were with Robins Group
(her sister & her hubbie and son, and another couple) live in Phoenix. They hadn't even gotten to the airport yet for the orignal flight
(the one on Thursday), they were hanging out waiting to see what was going to happen. Can you believe that US Airlines actually had
them come to the airport to board, not the flight "the group" was on, but the flight that was about 1 hour after it. - knowing
that the flight from Charlotte to Cancun had already been cancelled!!!! Needless to say Robin was at the Customer Service
Desk faster then you could shake a stick at!! Please tell me that I didn't really read that that flight had been canceled
before the flight even took off. The look on the gal's face at Customer Service was priceless, she was absolutely flabergasted -
not believing that the crew in Phoenix actually had everyone board that flight!!! This gal was so accommodating, she felt so bad that
the Phoenix crew had really done this. Mind you, there were probably 6 of the people involved with this group that were in the
age range of 75-85, a couple of them even had canes or walkers!! There was now another option that was given to Robin -- hang out in Charlotte
all day Friday and leave for Cancun from there on Saturday!!! Everyone debates again --- afew people did decide to wait it out and hope that the flight really does head to
Cancun come Saturday. It must of taken 2 1/2 to 3 hours to get accomodatiions and
food vouchers situated. In the meantime, the "group" had migrated to The Stock Car bar and restaraunt..Lee, the waiter was awesome and made the
wait as painless as possible! When the vouchers arrived for food, everyone decided to get some solid food in their bellies to soak up the achol....
Now, there was another catch to all of this. Rooms were comped at the Marriott, but the shuttle only runs until 11 pm...and it only holds 10 people.
Whelp, 30 ish people, it's already 10:15 and it takes 15 minutes to get to the hotel and then 15 minutes to get back to the airport for the next load.
So, by the time food was ordered, several had their food wrapped to go, since everyone still had to go to baggage claim to retrieve luggage.
According to the customer service gal, the bags would be ready and waiting for us!! Guess again!!! Miss Attitude at the Baggage Counter, very
rudely ( after several minutes of unpleasent conversation) point blank - It will be 45 minutes to 2 hours for your luggage, IF YOU ARE LUCKY!!
Needless to say this went over like a ton of bricks...call upstairs to your main Customer Service Desk and get this handled...several minutes later
a main supervisor was at the baggage counter, and Miss Attitude was advised to go in the back and start help starting to look for everyone baggage.
Shuttle #1 leaves for The Mariott with Rick (Robins Husband) so he can get the vouchers and rooms all dealt with. About 20 minutes later
another Mariott shuttle pulls up, Tom helps the shuttle drive shulf in the baggage of the 10,probably about 30 bags. Shuttle driver is all
ears listening to the Wild Toad story - he didn't hesitate not one second when he matter of facty siad, Oh - US AIR!! Pretty bad when
there is no doubt as to which airlines screwed everyone around. He delivers this 2nd group to the hotel ... he lugged all the luggage into the
lobby and everyone was greated by a wide eyed youngin' - like it's 11:30 om who are all you people? Guess what??!! WRONG MARIOTT..!!
He calls the shuttle, requesting the driver to come back... but guesss what??!! that driver can't just drive from Marriott 1 to Marriott 2. So, back to the
airport, unload the 30 some bags, reload the bags into the other Mariott Shuttle - by this time all anyone on the shuttle wanted was THE BAR! But guess what,
you got it, by the time the shuttle make the trip and arrived at the hotel --the bar was closing. Have to send a shout out to the bartender, who did
offer the weery travelers a toddie to go to calm their nerves and frustrations.
A friend, Kenny lives in N. Carolina, Tom gave him a buzz on arrival -and Kenny gave Tom some insight on the track etc.Tom, his brother Rick, Momma Moose
and niece Alli hit the wake up button for 6 am, rented a car and headed out to Charolotte Motorspeedway.Actiing like they knew what they were
doing they headed into the pit area... scoped out the activites and then made the jaunt down the road a bit to the dirt track... sounded like they had a
blast. Tom arrived back, gathered Laurie and the suitcases and Rick aimed the rental car in the (what was thought) the direction of the airport.
After realizing the normal 15 minute ride had now surpassed 30 minutes, it was time to pull out the New IPhone 4s's and get directions. Frankly, riding with Tom
has always been an adventure, but after holding on to the ah shit handles in the backseat with Rick driving..., Tom's driving aint' to bad!! Robin, knowing that Rick was
on his way to the airport she had called to confirm that the hotel vouchers for the now deeply dwined group that were hanging on and attempting to still make the trip.
She was advised by the Customer Service the night before that they just needed to run in to any check in counter and it would be a real quickie deal ----NOT.
In the meantime, Tom & Laurie were attempting to check in for the flight back to Phoenix and then on home. Whelp, the paper work that had been given
out the previous night was not what was needed to check in bags and get on the flight...you need a Fimm! What the hell is a Fimm??! Go to window
7 or 10. Guess who else was at window 7...?? You got it Rick... that quick run in and grab the passes had now turn into over 30 minutes.
Shere at window 10 was not so pleased to be given the paperwork that had been handed to all the people who were trying to head back home.
You got it, it was not even close to be completed, there were several other forms that were needed. Shere was apalagizing up side down and backwards
for the way the US Air had handled this entire situation. She comped all 3 bags and then printed several paper passes, and boarding tickets and
an 8 page print out that is supposedly a reciept showing that US Air will be refunding the flight $$.
Sounds like all is good - right??! NOPE. Arrival to gate check in, the young man takes the paper ticket that is stapled to the boarding passes -he then
leaves the station... Boarding rows 18-25 ... nope...the gal at the ramp needed the paper ticket that the guy had taken.. She was advised that
the guy at the counter had taken, lucikly, he reapeared and confirmed that he indeed had taken what she needed. Holy Crap.. what else?!!!
One more leg to go...Phoenix to Orange County. Tom heads to the counter, making sure that he keeps the paper that is stapled to the passes,
not going thru that again. The woman at the gate takes one look at the ticket, "oh, you're part of the Cancun group!" And instantly turned as sweet as
a chocolate bar - " we just received a lengthy MEMO regarding this entire ordeal. We would like to extend our apologies for all of your inconvience."
The carousel with the Moose luggage was circulating ,Tom grabbed the bags... saying goodbye to US AIR ---
John's PT Cruisrer Taxi Service was waiting outside baggage and it was Home Jack!!!
Moral of this story: DO NOT FLY US AIR!!!!!
JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT A VACATION COULDN'T BE MORE OF A DISASTER...GUESS AGAIN:
The vacation week continued ...
Back home, but why stay around the house? It had been palnned to be gone, so - Tom & Laurie
opted to head up the coast and just wander. Stop and sightsee, snoop around and stay whereever looked inviting. Things taht sure can't be done
when you're in a rig with a trailer behind you! Well, best laid plans of Mice and Moose - Monday around 5:15 Ton's cell starts going crazy,
best he'd answer it! It was one of HB Glass's larger accounts. For months HB Glass had been working on a bid to obtain a contract with this company.
As it turns out the main purchaser was going to be in their office on Tuesday - Tom sort of hesitated and then the man must of remembered that
Tom was on vacation. - oh sorry Tom, I forgot you were in Cancun!!! Tom's response, as luck would have it, we aren't in Cancun and I'll be there
Tuesday to meet. So much for even the short get away!! It was turn around and head home, back to the grind -
The largest race of the year of the West Coast Non Wing USAC/CRA, and then
invading Southern California for this event would be 30 rigs from across the country. All the heavy hitters would be on
hand to battle the locals!! With Tom & Laurie supposed to be out of the country, it had been arranged that a friend would take the rig out to be parked,
Greg and the crew would steer herd the operation of the Moosemobile on Thursday night and Tom & Laurie would arrive Friday. With all the
craziness, Tom & Laurie were able to get the track on Wednesday night, just after the practice, needless to say there were many people who hadn't
followed the adventures of the Mosses on Facebook and were kinda confused when the two arrived!! As the events of the weekend panned out, in
hindsight, the hurricane in Cancun might of been a easier pill to swallow!
Thursday night, Nov. 3rd, the pits were lined with cars from all over, frankly there had to of been more cars from Indiana then So Cal, as this was also
a National Points Race. The likes of 5 time series Champ, Levi Jones ( a car owned by Tony Stewart) Damion Gardner, Tracy iInes, Chris Windom,
Casey Shuman, Jon Stanbrough, Brady Bacon, Bud Kaeding, are just to name a few.
With close to 50 cars on hand, after the rotation of qualifying Greg in the #92
held on to 20th...not to shabby considering the make up of the field. ( as these other guys race on occasion, 3 to 4 nights a week! )
5 heat races with 8 cars per race..
Greg's race - Heat 5. Trust us, there was not one race that anyone could say was "easier" then another. Transferring only 4 cars to the Main, the 7th place finish put the Moose Racing
sprinter in the "B" Main. If you know anything about non wing sprint car racing, when you took a look at the line up for the "B" Main, you would swear that it
was the line up of one of the toughest Feature Mains around - and gang, this was the "Semi" all cars battling for only 4 spots in the Main. While moving forward after the green flag fell, Greg
started to see the action in front of him... and it wasn't the type of action anyone wanted to see. One of the front runners had gotten a little squirrelly, causing another car to spin, with no where to go
2 other cars spun but missed the 2 initial cars.... you got it, Greg was one of those cars. Figuring the 92 had survived, sliding to a stop - all was good until 2 cars that had been running
several position behind, smashed into the Moosemobile - one in the end and one to the front! As the battered Moose was lifted by one of the tow trucks and brought back
to the pits, the crew just stared - it wasn't a pretty sight!! Anyone that eyed the damage to the tailtank -but the bets on the table that there was no way that Tom
could get that critter pounded out, as it had creases and folds that surely looked impossible to be able to pop out. With the assistance of the propane heater,
Tom pounded and thudded - and thudded and pounded. People looked on, including the crew, thinking, there's no way --- to everyone's amazement after 45 minutes of arm slinging,
Tom had it! Frankly, the crew blamed the damage to the tailtank on Phil, as he, being bugged by the banged up bottom section of the tank, had masked off the
#'s and lower section of the tank and repainted it, prior to The Nationals. ( just kidding Phil) With the prediction of rain for Friday, Tom asked the crew to stick
it out and thrash on the car to get Humpty Dumpty back together again, thinking that the prediction would negate any chance of wrenching on the 92 on Friday.
Tom's call was right on, as Friday morning everyone was greeted with the pitter patter of rain drops. It was slight in the am, but gave way to heavy rainfall by midday, canceling
Friday nights competition. The purpose of purchasing a rig that had an actual Renegade Motorhome was so they and any crew members could bypass hotels,
Tom & Laurie settled in for the day, watching Nascar qualifying etc. ( thank goodness for satellite!) Mid morning there was a knock on the door, Ray Stansberry
who was always staying in a rig in the pits, was an orphan for the day and came in search of warmth. SO, Tom & Laurie took in an orphan for the day!!
What do most people do when there's no racin'??? You eat your way thru the day! Dave, Rich, Greg, Pee-Wee were all staying out in the non swamp area -
the motorhome campground area - all made the decision that everyone should go to Outback for dinner. That's great and sounds yummie, but how do Tom & Laurie get
out of the pits?? Dave, with a 4 wheeler Jeep, slip and sided across the track - The Moose's tentatively opened the motorhome door and stepped ut, where they were greeted
by a river outside the door. One step out, and sink about 5 inches!! Luckily both had brought extra shoes ... they sloshed their way to the awaiting Dave and finally
they were all off for food!! You can't get any better then prime rib and lobster!! Back the track, peeling off the soggy muddy clothes, a warm shower, flannel sheets and it
was an early night night time.
Saturday morning brought cold but sunny skies. The track crew at The Pas was up and at it at 6 am. blading the track and scrapping the pits. Those men worked their butts off -
they had sealed the track the night before, so concentration was on the muddy swamp area of the pits. But never say never, the races were on - Friday nights
show would be held Saturday early afternoon and then Saturday's show would be as scheduled.
Greg's first qualifying lap was a 16.5 something, the National guys that had been prior were turning 16.2's... Greg's 2nd lap sounded soo good until the arrival in turn 3 & 4... Why is it
when you think it is just a "Tommy Tip Over" that when the car gets back to the pits on the hook, it's sooooo much worse then expected? But that
doesn't slow down the Moose Crew! The guys flew into action. Greg had gotten in lap 1, thus he was in a Heat Race Line up - again, 5th Heat... that was a blessing, as it gave the
Moose Herd awhile to replace rear end, torque tube, driveshaft, brakes, shocks, front end, shocks, wheels etc and be ready to push out for the Heat Race.
Not much passing to be had, and again the Moosemobile was headed to the "B". Not finishing in the top 4, the option was given to take a provisional...this would
be starting last, but would gain precious points in the quest to hold on to 5th in overall USC/CRA Points.
2 complete shows in 1 day, makes for a long long day... the guys serviced the car and had it all set to go. Greg hot lapped and it looked like the
Cancun Hurricane had finally stopped following the Moose Herd around. Oops, spoke to soon!! If someone could explain, how everything works great one minute and then
when it is pushed off to qualify it has major problems. The shifter said "it was in gear" but it wouldn't go anywhere! What the heck? The assumptions was the something in the
rearend had broken, and the crew had already put in the spare, so it would be a night for the Moose Herd to Watch. Done, before even starting......
When it comes to racing we all know that the highs are high and the lows are low... but... dang, what a week!!!
With the Cancun disappointment, and the low's of the racing world in the rear view mirror, getting back to the 8-5 grind at the office actually sounded pretty good...
To bad it was a full moon week and the challenges that come with dealing with people when the wolf is howling made what is normally easy days ... well. difficult.
The final race of the USAC season would be Saturday the 12th .. do the Moose's decided to make the trip up and over the Grapevine to Hanford, or do they just say -
let's call it a year ... NO one has ever called the Moose's quitters and against all better judgement Tom & Laurie sat watching what the weather forecast was saying
for Saturday. The newscaster kept saying 75% chance of rain in the Hanford area.. but as the days counted down to race day the percentages decreased.
The car was ready, but it would be one of those deals, we have what we have and hope that everything goes according to plan, as 90% of the spares had been used in the
prior 2 races. Trailer loaded, last weather update at 5 am Saturday morning said...it's a go! Heading out of town, at 6:30 am into weather unknowns!!
A smaller field then last weekend ... 33... with the concerns of the car from the previous, even after changing rear ends, checking all that could be checked at the shop
Tom opted to have Greg fire the car before wheel packing...and it was sure a good thing he did.The car ran, but dang it sounded funny, it just didn't have that normal witches cackle!!
It was reasonably cold outside, and the engine hadn't been on the heater - Dave wend to add fuel for hot laps and qualifying... smell this! As luck had it, the
Drums that fuel at a supplier's had been pumped from - wasn't in fact methanal, it was gas!!! And yes, the not so pretty half crunched fuel tank had GAS in it!!
Out comes the fuel sucker, the fuel is removed, methanol put back in,plugs are replaced - let's cross fingers as the car is pushed off for hot laps. Sounds good, looks good -
that is until about 2 laps from the end ... Greg slows on the back straightaway....NOW WHAT!! It is in gear, but going no where! What the H????
The same problem as the last race at Perris.... okay, change rear end and torque tube... has to be something back there!! The crew only had about
25 minutes to get it done - as luck had it, the 92 was the 2nd to the last car to qualify... NO time for set up - just push it off....not the greatest lap in the world, but it
got the car in the show. Heat race --- no direct transfer... B Main-- got it, Greg piloted the Moosemobile in a transfer spot!!!!! Let's get on to the Main!! Not much passing... and starting way in the back, made for
all of the Moose Crew and Moose fans to hold their breaths. On a night that had seen many of the best upside down, the only real goal was
to finish in 1 piece!!
Now, asides from the normal USAC/CRA and Nationals points there was to be a race within a race. Ken & Terry Wagner and the Wags People's have had
over the years a Wagsdash. It has always been for
the lower funded, not top running teams.
This year with the economy,
the scheduling of tracks etc, the Wagsdash was oing to be a few selected cars, throughout the evening and then those cars that made the Main would have a race between themselves too.
The 3 cars that were named for the Wags Race and had made the Main, were Brody Roa, Cody Williams and Greg Bragg. It was a rough Main Event, with probably 5
cars getting upside down during those 30 laps. At this point, The Moose's didn't care where the finish was, just finish!! The race was won by Levi Jones of Indiana, who clinched his 5th National Championship.
Mile Spencer, one of the local USAC/CRA races claimed his 4th Championship and Greg brought the 92 Moosemobile home in 5th overall points for the season.
Not really knowing how the Wags portion was to unfold it was a huge surprise when Mr & Mrs Wags made their way to the car.. Brody had won the
Wags portion, Greg was 2nd and also had earned Steve Lafond's Hard Charger Change Jar. The Hard Charger award was also titled the
Mark Spivey Memorial ... Mark who at a very young age passed away recently of cancer. Mark had been a long time member of CRA. SCRA and USAC/CRA
and is very greatly missed. It was an honor to win the 1st Mark Spivey Memorial.
A huge thanks to the Wagsters and Steve Lafond!!!
To the Moosecrew - Dave, Hal, Rich, Chad and "Rookie" Jim - what else can be said except --
YOU GUYS ROCK!!! AWESOME JOB - the newest Mooser - Jim couldn't make it this last trip ..
don't worry the guys saved some extra mud for you to scrap when the car is serviced!!
PHIL & EILEEN KING, HUNTINGTON BEACH GLASS, CRC, K & N, TRACKSIDE RACING, CIRCLE TRACK, AND SALDANA ...
THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR SUPPORT THROUGHOUT THIS 2011 SEASON!!!!
Southern California Fair
October 8, 2011
Perris Auto Speedway, also home to the Southern California Fair - making the race day ALONG day. Pit gates opened at 10- am, so for
all of you that know us, that meant we were there by 8:30, yep, AM. For years you could find the Moose Trailer in the same spot, when that spot
became " shorter" the Moosemobile moved to another spot, by the little hill coming off of turn 4. Over the past few months, that corner has gotten
squished with cars, don't get it really, when there are open areas all over, why so many people migrated to that corner, but it was time to pack up
the antlers and move spots again. It was kinda a kick to watch Greg and a few other Moose's walk right past us - Getting there early gave us the chance to see
where we wanted to land - found a spot we do like right along the front straightaway. We'll see if that becomes "home"
Wanted to give the fair attendees a show daytime and evening, USAC/CRA was scheduled to race by day... and then by night.
Qualifying and Heat Races were run mid afternoon. The Semi Main and Main Event would take the Green Flag
about 6 pm.
It was in hopes that the rain that fell for several days in the Inland Empire prior to the race would keep the dust level down and
give us a nice track even during the heat of the day. Nope, it was dry and dusty, and presented challenges for many of the drivers.
A healthy car count of 30 ish was a plus ... Greg qualifying in about the middle of the rotation, posted a time that would hold the
92 car in 7th. If, all the cars that qualified a head of us transferred out of their heats, we would of been on the front row again, but
the 50 car got tangled up in a mess in his heat race, and didn't make the transfer spot - so that moved us back to the 2nd row for
the evenings A Main.
The smell of yummie junk food beckoned us all day ... ( why does it always smell better then it tastes?? )..
and we had plenty of time to go
act like kids, checking out the "junk food", watching the lawnmower races and too see if Tom could win me a stuffed animal!! The quick stroll thru the
fair and it was back to the pits for some relaxation before the evenings events.
A fast paced "B" Main and before we all knew it it was time for the Main. Starting 3rd, the 92 dropped back to 4th, then shot back to 3rd when another car
had misfortune and blew a tire. A little shuffling around and back to 4th behind the 3 car, who had some major problems with that we all figured
was brakes. Greg tried him high and low, but without doing a little nudging, there was just no getting around him. With about 5 laps or so to go,
the 50 car - the numerous time champ, put a move on Greg and Rip and got around us both, moving the 92 back to 5th.
From the moment the car took to the track, it was obvious that the Moosemobile was fast. Greg was smooth, consistent and looking
really good!! Another top 5!! We'll take it...
Next race for Moose Racing???
Huntington Beach Glass & Mirror / Moose Night
At "The Pas"
Wow !!! All I can say is Wow!! What a day!!!
You never know when you have a party, or host a special event how many of the people that say they will be there really will show up.
Handing out numerous flyers, contacting friends in the glass business, adding a coupon in one of the HB Glass ads, and Dave
on the crew encouraging some of his co workers from Toms Trucks that they had to come see a sprint car race,
the final plans
were made for Huntington Beach Glass / Moose Night.
It was rise and shine about 5 am. since Tom needed to run to a vendors will call to pick up parts he needed for a job on Monday.
Completing his "work" task, he was back to load the cars and all the pieces that would be necessary to pull off the evenings festivities.
And trust me, between Moose Night, the Co-Pilot program, dinner for the crew,
and all the stuff that is needed to race, it looked like we were moving!!
A lot of prep work went into the nights party at The Pas.
So many of the party people had never attended a sprint car race before, and the format can be a little hard to understand, so of
coarse there had to be custom " Moose" programs, explaining the who's who and what what's. Roped off ( in what else, but purple rope )
a large section in the grandstands, adorned the seats with black & white checkered material and topped the area off with purple and teal balloons
and Moose Logos to "mark the spot." What's a racing party without props? Phil took extra time Thursday to wax and shine up the back up car,
we borrowed a flat bed trailer and Dave hauled it to the track to stage in the main walkway of the grandstands. Kids can get bored so easy, so there
had to be goodie bags for them, and raffle give a ways for the adults. Well, it was all so worth it!! 98 % of the people that had obtained tickets were there!!
The HB Glass section was full to the brim!!! Yahoo, a success!! Now, the question would be be, what kind of show would our USAC/CRA drivers put on?
32 - 410 sprint cars in the pits, a nice size car count again. When you pull your qualifying pill you never know if getting an early or late # is good or bad.
The track being a little extra slick many of the cars that drew early #'s opted to forgo getting a chance at 2 laps and taking only one lap after all the
others had gone out. There were several that did this, which then had us go out about 5th instead of 10th ... Even with the tactics of those other teams, Greg still
turned times that would hold us 8th quick and set the stage for the evenings program.
32 cars, enables the program to have 4 heat races, a "B" Main ( last chance race ) and the "A" main.
Heat race action was amazing - a slide job that was pulled off in the 1st heat race by Nic Faas, I'm sure had jaws dropping, as he cut the #4 car low,
and slide under not 1, but 2 cars in turn 3 and 4. It was incredible to watch the talent and skill it took that young man to pull off.
On track for heat race 4 was the 92 Moosemobile, and that 8th quick time would start Greg inside the 3rd row with several heavy competitors along side.
Gotta finish 4th or better to secure the Main Event position, and since the 7 cars that were faster had all made it thru their heats, a top for finish not only
guaranteed us the Main Event start, but it would be on the Front Row, pole!!!
Last Chance Race " B" Main Event: Tonight this race asides from being the competitors last chance to make the "A" Main, it also held in store
a nice size payoff for the driver finishing in last place. Thought went into this selection, it didn't really mean necessarilly mean the car running last at the drop of the checkered,
but probably the first car to drop out due to mechanical issues, or a
crash - but the last car! Earlier in the year the copilot program was reborn. In an effort to get
kids involved in wanting to go to the races - this program matches kids with drivers in the starting line up of the Main. If their driver wins, so does the child!
A trip to Victory Circle, a Winners Medal ( just like the driver ) and a goodie bag full of awesome tidbits. The efforts of June Gardner, her manning the
co-pilot table week in and week out, not only took to talking to people to sign up their kids, but also started collecting donations for this evening.
why this evening?: It was The Glenn Howard Memorial. Glenn had been a huge pillar in the world of sprint cars for ages. Not only the business owner
of SO Cal Performance, but a driver, a car owner, a past president. His participation helped and supported owners and drivers year after year. So,
when all was send and done, the 76 car of Derek Buckley ( who by the way came to run with USAC/CRA for the 1st time at Perris, had to pull in
after just a hand full of laps due to a failed brake master cylinder )received the jar of $$ that totaled $ 550.00!! Not to shabby!!
Listen to the Rumble as the 22 - 410 sprint cars took to the track for The Glenn Howard Memorial Main event!! Greg on the inside
of the front row - with David Cardy on the outside. Green drops, and Greg takes off like a rocket - the officials call the start back, they didn't like the
way the cars were lined up -- Great! Da-m!! == Restart -- it was Greg on point again!!! a lap in, and a yellow is displayed for a spinning car !!
This happened a couple times, and that just makes the tension greater and greater. As an old racing statement, is cautions bred more cautions --
Greg held the pack of for 7 laps and was running a great line, it was Nic Faas, who was on a terror last night and hell bent for A win, passed the Moosemobile.
Greg settled into second for many laps - the track was crazy fast and the cars that had qualified just tad bits faster gained on the 92. When the race
was completed Greg in the 92 Huntington Beach Glass & Mirror car, had again a top 5, in 5th!!
Hoping that all the newbies in the Moose Section would get treated to a great introduction to Sprint car racing, they received just that!! Thanks to Greg and the awesome
work of the Moose Crew -
the report card was in - SPRINT CAR RACING IS AWESOME - when do you race again???? Hopefully we have created a group
of new sprint car fans!!
As always we couldn't do any of this without the support of the Moose Crew ( who last night was unfortunately missing Rich ) Dave, Hal and Tom gave Tom
a car that was ready for competition.
Moose Racing thanks the support it receives from : HB Glass & Mirror, Phil & Eileen King,
Trackside Racing, KNN Filters, RC Performance, CRC, Saldana Racing, Circle Track
Next Race: Perris Auto Speedway "Inland Valley Fair"
split Show..
Load Up The Rig And Lets Get Outta Town!
USAC/CRA makes it's yearly trip to wine country over the Labor Day weekend. And Moose Racing has been looking forward to this jaunt for months.
Ray & Kevin @ Trackside Racing lent us their stacker trailer so the crew could get both cars and all the spares loaded for the long trip up north - a special thanks
to them for making it happen.
With Huntington Beach Glass in the good hands of Brenda, Pat & Brian we headed out of town at 5 am on Wednesday August 31st and the plan was
that we would be gone until September 10th, for us that's a crazy amount of time to be gone. Then only being an hour out of town, we started to think that our trip had just
ended before it had even started. A trucker pulls up along side us honking and waving towards the trailer. Tom pulled over at the next opportunity and did the
walk around, no flat ... he felt the tires and found that 2 were incredibly hotter. Best get this thing off the freeway and see what's up. Pulling into a
Home Depot parking lot Tom opens the trailer door to be greeted with billows of blueish smoke that smelt like rubber..WTH .. The dance around the trailer and
rig again, then he crawled under the units. 1 tire on the trailer was badly worn on the inside edges and another starting to wear.
All new tires had been put on the trailer for this trip -
apparently 2 of the rims had been spares and un be known to anyone they were a tad bit wider and were rubbing. Home Depot beckoned and I was in search of some washers so
Tom could see if he could shim those 2 wheels out about 3/8" of an inch for clearance. Back on the highway about an hour later and luckily never had
another problem. It was clear sailing to Calistoga from there.
Entering Wine Country always takes my breath away. This year even more so, as the extremely wet winter in Napa made the hilltops even more alive
with vegetation and a large assortment of color.
The peacefulness of the miles and miles of vineyards, rolling hills and picturesque settings
always leaves takes my breath away, it's scenery that you could never tire of looking at.
Parking the rig and hauler wouldn't happen until
Thursday - we popped out a few chairs, spent the afternoon visiting with Ken & Gary, fans from Perris, and Cory's
dad from Bakersfield. It was an early evening for all - Thursday we met Aaron, the gentleman that volunteers all his time in getting the facility
ready for the 1000's that would emerge on it come Friday and Saturday. Pour Aaron has his hands full, it was like watching a one man band!
We all know Tom, he can't sit still for more then 30 minutes so
when someone needs help, he's usually one of the first to offer help - and this was no different. Not soon after I found him parking rigs, in the layout that had been requested,
moving chain fences, setting up tables and even one day he and the Moose Crew finished off building the ticket booth for the main grandstands. There was no way in the world that Aaron
could possibly have the time to get that both done, plus everything else he was trying to do. I'm, sure after these several days, Aaron became a couch potato - thinking to himself, what
in the world had he gotten himself into?
It will be 12 months before this starts all over again, right?
I'll tell ya, Tom never ceases to amaze me, he can do anything he puts his mind to -
When all was said and done, the camping area was great - little by little the Moose Crew started to arrive
and our campground couldn't of been any better! Phil & Eileen
and Rich arrived about the same time on Thursday, so the 5 of us went to a little hamburger joint back about 12 miles in Saint Helena. The place is set up kinda like car hop style,
thinking in it's beginnings that is how it functioned, but the place is so dang busy now, that set up wouldn't hold enough cars. Instead behind the
building are grassy areas and picnic tables to enjoy the yummie hamburgers, shakes and a variety of french fries. Friday was our yearly trip to V. Sattui Winery,
Phil & Eileen & I found a couple wines that we really do enjoy there, of coarse, because you can not buy their wines anywhere but there! Phils trunk loaded with several cases,
we should be all set for several months.
Hal & "little" Pee-Wee made the trip up, then "Big" Pee-Wee, Dave, Brandy & Chad arrived pulled in in their big rv, Lori, Greg & Katiee arrived about 4 with Lori's
parents in another large RV. Tom had roped off a large enough area that we could all be together. Prior to the trip the gals had chatted and
decided that we'd all make "stuff". We'd bbq tri tip and then we'd all do side dishes
SO, the assortment was great - baked potatoes, fried potatoes, cole slaw, macaroni salad, green salad, baked beans,
garlic bread, pasta salad
, blueberry and peach cobbler, and brownies. Gary and Ken joined the Moose Herd for dinner too.
Tummies full, glasses topped off with vino, we all gathered around the mosquito candle for great conversation, bench racing and the "plans"
for Saturday Night's : Louis Vermiel Classic!
Working behind the scenes to promote special events for the fans to enjoy during the day and raise extra $$ for the racers purse is Greg Sowers.
Over the past several years it is Greg that lines up the wineries and sets the stage for the variety of local vineyards to promote their wines. Whether you enjoy wine
or not, the event wine glasses with the "Calistoga Racetrack Logo" are a must for any sprint car fan. With the wine tasting being such a hit, last year
beer tasting was added for the Sunday event. The beer connoisseurs now have their chance to voice their opinion on who had the best brew of the day!
The day is so enjoyable, giving the fans, crews, drivers to mingle, chat, get autographs and just relax prior to the evening competition.
Thanks to Greg for all he does!! It adds just the perfect touch to the great weekend!!
Prior to the pit meeting the Moose Herd breaks for a mid afternoon dinner, on the menu tonight was brats. They had been simmering in beer and onions for sevral hours and the aroma of the butter, onions and beer filled the air. Topped off with a variety of salads, chips and dips, cookies & brownies. Now, getting the Moose Crew motivated to work was gonna be a chore as all they really wanted to do now was take a nap!
It's time for the green flag, as 25 - 410's and 360's laid out their areas across the front straightaway of Calistoga Speedway. In years past the afternoons
temps had been unbearable but Mother Nature must of had some sympathy for all of us that were out in the mid day sun, as temps
bs stayed in the low 90's by day, but come sundown, it was sweatshirt weather, and a jacket wouldn't have hurt either!
Qualifying saw Greg in the # 92 Huntington Beach Glass sprinter 15th out of 25 cars. Starting in the 3rd Heat in 3rd, he powered into the lead - but boy did he have
company as Danny Sheridan wanted that win and rode the backnerf for all 10 laps. But Greg held Danny off and claimed the checkered flag for the
DJ Safety Heat Win!
Main Event Action was fast and furious Danny Sheridan darted out to the lead for the first 15 laps when Ballou saw the opportunity for the pass and
lead the final laps.
Greg started 14th had a great run, finishing with yet
another top 10 finish!!!
TO BE CONTINUED FOR NIGHT 2 @ CALISTOGA AND NIGHT 3 @ CHICO
Sunday was kicked off by a great breakfast courtesy of Brandi, Big Pee-Wee and Tom. Lori had made awesome biscuits, & the smell of bacon at a campsite made
your mouth just water for a breakfast feast.
Somehow I managed to wiggle out of cooking breakfast both days - since breakfast
is really my favorite, but I hate cooking and cleaning up the dishes in the morning. So for me, it was a huge treat.
A few samples of beer - and it was time to eat, yes, again! And then to the track Jack!
Minus only one car from the previous night the final Salute to Louis Vermeil was underway. Qualifying 12th ...
Heat Race Three action was star studded with Spencer and Mitchell, Greg and York, all 4 who have claimed USAC/CRA victories, so we
all knew the action would be wild as Spencer would work his way from the last starting position to claim Heat 3.
The final race of the weekend comes to the line with us starting 12th. An unusual site early on in the Feature as Damion Gardner flipped -
a little rattling for some, as it is very rare that you see Damion upside down. Robert Ballou took the early lead and had what everyone thought was
his 2nd victory in as many races, when it was noticed under a yellow flag that his right rear tire was going down. It was strange, as at first the officials said he
could stay out and race if he felt k with that, then they flew the black flag and forced him to come to the pits to change the tire. That was all
she wrote for Robert - Mike Spencer took home the Vermeil Classic. Another top 10 for Greg and the Moosemobile
as he crossed the line in 8th place!!

The normal gig for us over the years is to load up and hit the road right after the races. Figured to beat some of the holiday traffic by traveling
at night. This year, with the scheduling of USAC/CRA at Chico on Thursday night, we were in no big hurry to get reorganized. Phil & Eileen,
who had been staying in Santa Rosa ( about 35 minutes away ) were packing up and heading to Pismo Beach for a few vacation days, Greg, Lori, Katiee and
Lori's parents were heading home. Big Pee Wee, Brandi, & Chad were dropping Dave off at the airport and then they were headed to Monterey
camping a few days, Hal & "little pee-wee" were relaxing along the coast for a few days before heading to Chico, so that leaves us
to decide how we were gonna spend the next few days.
What did we ever do without the internet? A weather search told us that we would be CRAZY to
head to Chico any sooner then need be. SO, what do the guys want to do: eat!! They want to go back to the hamburger place in St. Helena. SO off we go ... on the way back we decided to stop at " The Castle" . This castle was build to look like a Medieval Castle and took 14 years to build. It was done by
the brother of the winery that I have grown to like to much. So, a few more samples of vino - and wouldn't you know it, after buying a case of the
wine that I have like for so many years, I just found one I liked better!! Damn, and needless to say Tom isn't to pleased. Guess "I'll have to drink what I
got before we order some of the new... Finding a place to park in St. Helena on a holiday isn't the easiest, but Rich pulled it off. We enjoyed strolling down the streets of this quaint little town, with a stop in the shop that has herbed oils of all types for bread dipping, cooking etc. We had found it last year and
both of us were just about out. Stocked up and ready for kicking back in the recliner at the campsite and having a few glasses
of wine with some great company. Tuesday the guys rolled the car out, washed and serviced it and got things set up for Thursday nights race at Chico.
Heading into town to just browse - a quick dash to the ice cream parlor found it closed, so what's the next best thing? The Mexican restaurant next door
for marguerites, chips and guacamole. At least with that now no one was gonna have to cook, a few hor'dours and a couple more margies back at the campsite,
we called it a night.
Rise and shine and on the road to Chico - about 3 hours north. The USAC/CRA race at Chico was being held on Thursday night, a 360 show on Wednesday
and the famed World of Outlaws were on hand for Fri & Sat. This event is know as The Gold Cup, it has been probably over 25 years since
I'd had the opportunity to got to Gold Cup and I was really looking forward to seeing several old friends from days gone by. The temps in Chico hadn't
gotten the memo that we were coming, It was warm, but we heard that Friday and Saturday, they were expecting about 104!--- YIKES!! Hal, Tom, Rich, Pee-wee, Heather & I opted for the grandstands and waited for the drop of the green to start qualifying before any of us ventured into the heat. The actual air temp was nothing compared to The Heat on the racetrack. Wow, a couple of great shows, with Greg Decaries ( an "older codgers") beating out 2 young up and coming racers!
Thursday for the USAC/CRA show was warm, but nothing like the prediction for the following couple of days. The rig headed into the pits about 11, with us gals hanging out in the air before the they kicked us out to buy pit passes. The car count. WOW!! there were non wing 410's, 360's a few spec sprints and
midgets too. The car count sure shocked a lot of us -- it was great!
Qualifying ... pill draw wasn't the kindest to us, with a 68 --4 cars from the last... but Greg salvaged that lousy pick by coming in with 17th fast,
and making the field of 32 that would battle in the heat races. Qualify under 32nd and you head for the C Main. With this size field you sure wanna
make the Main via your heat race, and not have to run the B Main...and Greg did exactly that--4th place and a direct transfer to The Main.... The c Main was cut short due to rolling black outs in the area and qualifying had been completed by using the ole fashioned stop watch!!
Main Event ... the small track holds for wheel to wheel action - see cars 2 & sometimes 3 wide. For that, you hold your breath. Greg as out there minding his own business, running his race, when with 4 laps to go Austin Williams got all out of shape and spun in turn 4. I let out a loud breath of relief when it appeared
that Greg had cleared it, I turned my head for a sec, then back, just n time to see the Moosemobile doing what we call "A Tommy Tipover" ( Meaning,
an easy roll ) Whelp when the car got back to the pits, it hasn't been the "easy roll" we all expected. It had taken out 2 shocks. front axle, radius rods,
drag link, wheel and who knows what else. I decided that I really didn't wanna know. So, with 4 lousy laps, running 8th....!! ARG!!!
Friday was just as predicted: it was horrible!! HOT HOT AND MUGGY, HUMID!! I swore that we had all moved to the mid west. After the 1st couple sets of hot
laps, the track was already rough, dry and rutty. There were not any of the drivers that were in the best of spirits, so even just
popping by to say hi, I felt like I was taking my like into my own hands. The track officials realized the track con id ti on was sooo poor, they brught out graters and
trucks to rework it. I think a few of the attitudes changed after that. But after being on hand for 3 incredible sprint car
races in a row, the show for the Outlaws was a real disappointment. Tom had rested himself. frankly I think he slept thru it, so he was fired up and
ready to head home about 12:30 Friday night!1 We drove til about 4 am, slept at few hours and then back on the road and home
by 2:30!! We were greeted at the door by all 3 animals and geez were we glad to be home and to see our babies.
That had to be the hardest of being gone for 10 days, missing SIdewall, Poopie and Retread, and they must of missed us too,
as they have all been following us around all day today!
Great vacation, perfect company, awesome racing and some time to even relax. See ya next year Calistoga!!

Moose Racing has special thanks to so many : The Moose Crew ( Hal, Dave, Rich, "Big" Pee-Wee, Chad ) Phil & Eileen,
Pee-wee, Brandi, Lori, Katiee, Huntington Beach Glass & Mirror, Phil & Eileen, Trackside Racing, Specialized Powdercoating, CRC...
Some Photos Of The Trip Posted Here

August 28th
The last race at Perris was August 20th, so wow, we're a tad bit tardy in getting this update posted...
The Moose Crew put all efforts into rebuilding the Moosemobile after it's last outing at Perris on July 30th. Who ever
would of thought so much had been damaged! All parts were ordered by that day and believe it or not,
it took until the day before this race on the 28th before the crew had all the parts to put humpy dumpty back together again.
Tom & Laurie would like to send a huge thank you to Don Flanders, Randy Levy and several of his friends that sure helped
with finances in those repairs. When someone comes out of the stands, understanding the amount of $$ it takes to keep a car
fielded, it means sooooo much!!!! THANK YOU AGAIN...
The evening started awesome, 6th quick, a direct transfer to The Main -- starting inside 2nd row... all looked good...
until on about lap 5 down the back straightaway, Greg meet with the wall ( and rode that wall for a long time ) .. not entirely
by his own doing... So, after 2 weeks of putting the rear of the car back together, this past week has been thrashing on repairing
the front...and getting everything situated for the trip to Wine Country, Calistoga for the Louis Vermille Classic!!!
This trip is looked forward to all year long and this year another show at Chico has been added for the Thursday after Labor Day.
For the past few races June Gardner has been manning the Co-Pilot booth at The Pas. Wondering what that is?? Kids under 12
have a chance to be on the Winners Podium!! With just a dollar, entry forms are completed, when it has been determined by the heat race and
semi main finishes which drivers will be in the Main, the entry forms are pulled and kids are matched with a driver in the Main,
If their driver wins - they get a great goodie bag, a trip to the Victory Podium and their photo taken with The Winner!
The response has been great and watching the kids faces when they win is awesome!! All ( every dime ) $$ collected
is being donated to purse at the Glenn HO ward Memorial race on Sept 24th...with co-pilot $$ and generous donations
the co-pilot program will be making a nice donation that will go to a driver.
A thank you to the generous people and companies that support Moose Racing:
Huntington Beach Glass, Phil & Eileen King, Trackside Racing, K & N Filters, RC Performance, CRC, Saldana Racing Products, Circle Track..
And kudos to Don Flanders and Randy Levy!!!
July 30th
Perris Auto Speedway
While thunderstorms won the race at Victorville Speedway, just an hour away, the weather Saturday evening at
"The Pas" couldn't of been more enjoyable. When the prediction for the Inland Emire was for near triple digit temps and
muggy - it was extra special when the evening produced slight breezes and very comfortable temps.
28 USAC/CRA sprint cars, a ton of California Lightening Sprints and about 8/10 Senior Sprints were on hand to try
and claim the checkered flag and the covented title Winner, in the Kindoll Classic.
Jack Kindoll a legandary driver & car owner of past past away many years ago, thus creating this race that pays tribute to him.
As a few other pillars of non wing sprint car racing took the checkered flag of their own, it was only right for them to be honored for
thier contributions also. Billy Wilkerson, Walt James & Bill Pratt were also being recognized. Chris Holt took on the task of requesting $$
from racers, fans, companies, anyone that would be spread throughout the field, extra $$ for the driver that was heading the race on various completed laps.
A last man standing dash and a check for $ 500.00 to the driver that claimed Fast Time. HB Glass even chipped in $ 100.00 for " The Hard Charger".
In an economy that has everyone counting pennies, the response ws awesome
Moose Racing would like to thank Chris and All the people that put forth their hard earned $$ to make this race such a success!!
On to race update:
The evening for Moose Racing was moving on such a positive note - qualifying 8th ( which, if the 7 cars that qualified faster all transferred from
their heats, would start the #92 on the pole ) ... Greg won his heat race over a hard charging Austin Williams. Coming off of turn 4 to see the waving checkered
flag it was anyones guess as to which one of the 2 would claim the heat victory. It was Greg in the Moosemobile. Yahoo!!!!
One car did not make the transfer of the 7 that qualified in front of Greg, so starting spot for the #92 would be outside the front row. Driver introductions were made.
The kids names that were drawn to be copilots were announced and after several parade laps and the fan saluting 4 wide was completed, the cars came off of
turn 4 to take the checkered and it was Greg with the lead. Of coarse with Greg in the lead, there had to be 2 yellows early on, Greg held the lead for 4 laps until a
"stand on the gas Mike Spencer" got around him. Settling in running 3rd Greg was consistent, smooth and running a perfect line. Yellow flag on lap 16 set up a restart, staying
in3rd, then coming around for completion of that lap Greg got high in turn 4, rubbed the wall a bit - he kept it together, loosing a few spots, but gathered it back up and started the
charge forward. Lap 27 wasn't so kind. With only 3 laps left to go entering turn 1 it appeared that we hit a rut which threw the front end and didn't allow for the rear to come around correctly.
A hard smack into the wall and then another car who did everything he could do not to hit the Wounded Moose, spun out too. With attrition being the name of the game - somehow,
the #92 was still scored in 9th.
Wounded car back in the pits the crew started taking a survey of the damage. Not pretty - 2 rear arms, 2 rear shocks, birdcages, possible rear end and
.... other stuff.... eck! They will know more after the car is dissembled and gone thru this morning.
Getting home was probably even more challenging then the racing. Finally loaded and tooling down the freeway there are large flashing yellow and red warning lights -
4 lanes at the 60 freeway at Diamond Bar
closed! Okay, do you decide to take another route, or bite the dust and continue on your way? considering 9 times out of 10, it's not
true. To elected to stay on the 60 - the back up at Diamond Bar was minimal and gotten through in no time. BUT, they never told you that there was also
major construction on the 57 - taking the freeway to 1 lane!!! So, what should take about 15 minutes was ticking off the clock and ended up being close to a 1 hour delay!!!
Finally home - you gotta be kidding: the Moose Rig pulls perfectly in on the street, that us unless the neighbors decide to park right in front of the house! Okay, move across the
street - oops, that won't work. Pull around the block again and line up in front of the other neighbors and over a friends driveway that they don't use. All situated and ready to
head to bed - one of the neighbors let Tom know that he might not wanna park there, due to earlier "neighbor" issues. Tom back in the rig and around the block again, parked
a few blocs away in front of another friends. So, the normal get home and in bed in about 1 hour 15 minutes, ended up taking over 2 hours 45 minutes. Wondering if
they'd ever see the pillow - it was finally nite-nite time!! Rise and shine at 7:30, shuffle rigs around, unload and the Sunday ritual of cleaning, assessing damage, and servicing.
When the check sheet is addressed and how much damage is really there, the Moose Crew will make the decision as to if it is possible for the #92 to be at the
next race in Santa Maria. Fingers are crossed, but with the $$ this is all gonna take, Tom has sort of already given indication that it will be a No Go for Santa Maria.
Although the haps of last night are a bummer there are other things that wake you up and make you realize that all that is Just Stuff.
A reality check of What Is Really Important occurred last night: Mark, a long time friend and racer had a bump/lump starting on this neck. Addressing it quickly, it was
Determined that it was a cancerous growth. Rounds of chemo and treatments have worn on Mark- but he and his gal Marci are Fighters - they just need
A LOT OF YOUR PRAYERS!! Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Tom & Laurie have special thank yous to send out: Over the years Chad, Tom's best friend has been a key ingredient in the success of Moose Racing. ( Tom & Chad built the very
first Moosemobile back in 1992 - and have been together ever since )
Last week, Chad and
the Kincaid family packed up their home here in HB and headed for the greenery and openness of Washington State. Asides from Chad's involvement in Moose Racing,
Chad and his wife Tracy are the Moose's best friends. This decision for them is a stepping stone in advancing their future and is a great decision for them - getting away
from the hussle and bussle of So Cal presents them and their kids the opportunity to enjoy a slower paced, more fulfilling way of life.
For all Chad and Tracy have done for us over the years, we shout out a Huge Thank you ( which those words don't seem to be enough), we love you,
and will miss you all soooooo much.
As always
: Shouts out to the Moose Crew for all their help and dedication - Hal, Dave, Rich, & Phil....and the extra helping hands of Mike, Ken & Dave

FIREWORKS 30
Perris Auto Speedway
July 2nd
It had been a busy couple of weeks for the Moose's - Tom's brother, Rick had been at the house for a week, helping Tom with some projects. Tom's mom,
Carol flew in on Thursday to join in the celebration ( for Carol it was a double day - Puppa Moose, who was Carols love for over 50 years, passed away 2 years ago, and
July 2nd was his birthday --what a better way to celebrate the love of her life, then with the fantastic fireworks show at Perris Auto Speedway ), and
Casey flew in from Indiana on Friday landing at John Wayne Airport - and riding back to the house on the Tom's E ticket ride. The Moose Crew arrive, finishing both cars,
acquainting themselves with what Casey's like and dislikes were in a car, then a quick dinner of brats -- and the Herd of Moose's was ready to head to the
track bright and early on Saturday morning.
Wow - summer has finally arrived in Southern California, it never seems to fail. The week leading up to one of the biggest shows
at "The Pas" temps over the past couple years have been under normal, but then like on clue when the gates open at Perris Auto Speedway
for the Fireworks 30, the thermometer takes a drastic turn and feels like it's gonna pop at over 105 degrees!! So, armed with coolers full of water,
soaked rags for fashionable neckware and plenty of sunscreen the Moose Crew loaded not 1 trailer but 2.
Moose pits were set up with both cars shaded by the large EzUp- the trailer was decorated, the mule had red, white and blue garland and of coarse American Flags,
and both cars proudly displayed flags on both sides. All the early arrivals were swished out of the pits to get in line and purchase passes and let back into the
track. Preparation for the race continued and then at 2:45 the 32 sprinters and ?? Lightening Sprints, made their way to the front straightaway for a driver
autograph session. This is where the heat of the dessert really kicks in and all but starts to drain you. The spectator grandstands are opened and fans are
let down to meet and greet their favorite driver, or maybe being a newbie, choose who they might route for. The City Of Perris partakes in this race, as
it is the area fireworks show -- and The City was celebrating an Anniversary! There has been work on bringing back the CoPilot Program - a chance for
kids to be involved a drawing that enables one of them to be teamed up with a driver, if their driver wins, they get a trip to Victory Circle for photos with
the winner and a 1St Place medallion of their own. The sign up process started during this autograph meet and greet and was then taken up
to the grandstand main concourse and handled by June Gardner and Bobbie ( oh heck, was Meli, not sure of new last name). 16 kids would sit waiting to see who they would teamed up until the Main Event line up was announced.
The Team had both cars ready to qualify for the evening activities -- Casey rolled onto the track as the 11th car to qualify and ended up being 6th quick---
Greg was pushed off later in the rotation and brought the car in in 14th....With the times determing the line ups, Casey was in Heat 2 and Greg in Heat 3.
Both cars took the checkered flag in direct transfer spots to the Main... Casey 3rd and Greg 2nd!
Probably being the main attraction to the Speedway on this night for so many of the locals isn't necessarily the racing, but the Awesome Fireworks show
that is presented during intermission, just prior to the Main Event. The display of brilliant flashes in the sky that is choreographed to music is something that
many look forward to year after year. Hats off to The City of Perris and the Kazarians for yet another year of awesomeness!!
-- Main Event --
With the flash of fireworks in the background the cars lined the straightway ready for their respective drivers to climb in.
Moose 92m Casey 2nd row, Greg in the 92 7th row. The green flag flies and the battle is on... who would be the victor? Rip Williams
leads the pack for 6 laps, before the defending champion Mike Spencer took control and would never look back, but fending off a
hard charger in Nic Faas. Greg was steadily moving forward, picking off one at a time .... Casey had his hands full, as due to abnormal
heat from one of the muffler turn downs causing the left tire to grow, making the desired stagger to decrease - was fighting the 92m
for all 30 laps and came home 9th - Greg had worked his way up to 11th. Both cars finished, both drivers in one piece ( although heat exhausted),
both cars rolled back on the trailers - so we'd say that the evening ended up on a positive.
Tom & Laurie need to thank the many people that came to the track to lend hands in the crewing of 2 cars
(hope no one is missed)
Chad, Dave, Hal,Katie, Mike, & Rich. Ashley, JR, Tracy, Spanky, Mike ( Rich's nephew)There were so many others on hand in the pits and grandstands to
cheer on the Moosemobile's. There were several friends of Tom & Laurie's in the grandstands witnessing the excitement for the 1st time. They all
admitted their enjoyment and pledge that they will be back before the season's end!
It was a pleasant surprise to have Lori, Greg's wife there - as she has over the past couple of years become softball mom.
Of coarse a special thank you to Casey for making the trip to California -
The team had a great evening of fun and are looking forward to the race at Perris on July 20th!!!
( By the way - thinking of you Puppa Moose - thanks for watching out for the Moosemobile's )
DOUBLE MOOSE SIGHTING AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY
THIS COMING SATURDAY JULY 2ND!
When Moose Racing takes to the track at Perris Auto Speedway Saturday night, it won't be just one #92 Moosemobile, but two!!
So, if you think you are seeing double, you don't need to rub your eyes and look again.
Joining the Moose Herd this weekend will be Casey Shuman. Casey is no stranger to Moose Racing, as it was the #92 sprinter
that was the initial stepping stone to Casey's career in non wing sprint cars. Casey, now residing in Indiana, races on several platforms,
full time basis in the 4G and occassional shows in some of the top ranked Midgets. Coming off of a recent WIN, numerous top 10's and a 3rd the same night as Greg ran third at Santa Maria,
Casey accepted Tom & Laurie's request to wheel the Moosemobile....
You're probably wondering why - where's Greg???
The race
at Perris that celebrates The 4th Of July, is actually Laurie's favorite race of the year -
the sights and sounds of the fireballs erupting to the medley of patriotic songs is anxiously awaited every year. So, when Greg let Tom & Laurie
know that he couldn't run the Moosemobile that night, it was time to jump into action to find the perfect person to crawl into Greg's seat.
Greg's daughter, Jayme, is an incredible softball player and there was a large tournament scheduled in Utah? for that weekend.
Casey's name was brought up by several people and if he didn't have a race at home, he would be the perfect candidate.
Whelp, there was a little hic cup in the plans: at the Memorial Day race at The Pas, Tom told Greg that everything was confirmed and Casey was
coming -- guess what : you got it!! The softball tournament was cancelled and Greg could drive!!! Casey's flight was already booked and confirmed -
so now what was Tom to do? The Moose stable does have 2 cars, the "A" car and PeeWee ( PeeWee is used mostly for smaller tracks, as the
engine in it, is, well, PeeWee )
With the A car already promised for the man that
would wing his way to Southern California, Tom let Greg know that if he wanted to drive PeeWee, the crew would somehow someway have both cars ready.
With a trailer that
only holds 1 car, Greg was advised that he'd have to go to Huntington Beach, schloff PeeWee on his back and carry it to Perris!! No really. don't know what
Tom's plans are to get both cars to the track, but surely, he has it all worked out.
Coming off of 2 races with 2 Podium Finishes - Greg is on a roll, sitting 4th in overall USAC/CRA points!
The entire Mooseherd is excited about the evening and working "Double Time" to have The Double Moosemobiles ready for action!
2 RACES - 2 PODIUMS: WAY TO GO GREG!!!!
When the schedule came out and knowing that the Moosemobile would have to be selective about what races it could and couldn't run,
it was decided that with as much support Chris Kearn's has given to the 410 USAC/CRA series, that somehow, someway,
the Moosemobile would be on hand for his 2 races. The team had gone over the schedule and had opted that due to fiances they
probably would opt out of the race in Watsonville on Friday June 17th. But when taking a look at the tight points of the top ten, Tom & Laurie
tried to figure out a way to make the trek to Ocean Speedway in Watsonville.. It wasn't in the cards, as a contract that Tom had, had to be done
by Friday - and try as hard as he did, there was just no way, he could complete the job in time. So, the team sat watching the computer, wondering like
so many others what was going on at the track 7 hours north.
So many of you have read these, and know that Tom hates traffic, so, anyone traveling in the rig has to set the alarm clock for
"oh dark thirty" as the hauler was leaving HB at 6:30 Saturday headed ( non stop ) for Santa Maria. By doing this, it is normal that
you don't see the Moose Hauler stuck in any type of the typical " LA Traffic."
28 sprint cars and several other classes of cars filled the pits of the picturesque infield of Santa Maria Speedway.
For the smaller tracks, it is usually " Pee Wee" that is on call for competition. And the little engine that could, proves once
again that it has what it takes!! How many years has it been since the legendary Ron Shuman retired?? Whelp, Pee Wee,
was the engine that Ron Shuman won his last championship in!!! SO, under the ever loving hands of Richard at RC Performance,
Pee Wee still competes and is oh so competitive!!
For a change of pace, Greg pulled the qualifying pill, it was 50 -- so that means the 92 would go out basically mid pack. The first lap was not
to pretty as turn 4 had turned to very tricky. But lap two, regardless of the fact that he basically cruised out of 4 to the checkered flag, was
still going to finish up qualifying in 7th. From the pits the crew listened for the should of the engine as Greg toured the track. It was the end of the run and
everyone had a quizzical look on there faces, as you heard a blub blub noise. Now what! The shifter cable had broken, coming out of 4!! With all the spare parts
this team carries, could you believe that there wasn't a spare:??!! So, THANK YOU to the 66 crew - who so graciously lent the Moose Crew a cable.
The team went to work, and had the repairs done with just minutes to spare prior to the 3rd heat race. Of coarse as luck would have it, the 3rd Heat had a really stout
lineup!! Greg, being in the middle of a sandwhich did pull off a finish that would give the 92 a direct transfer to The Main. With a 7th qualifying effort, and the
invert that occurs in the Main, Greg started the Main event on the front row-outside!
With 20 sprint cars placed around the oval Greg was pushed off and fell into his starting position of 2nd. Green flag, the field is off -- and
the Moosemobile, which was appearing to be real tight, dropped back to 4th in the first sequence of laps. Eck! Poor Greg, you could tell from
watching that the car wanted to go anywhere but where he wanted it to go!! About lap 15 the car came to him! And he was ready!!!Hanging right in there in 4th, whelp, that
will work, when unfortunately, the 50 car of Mike Spencer, who had been dominating the race, broke. Feeling bad for Mike, but it moved
Greg to 3rd!! Mashing the pedal he made a few runs for 2nd, but in the end it was 3rd for Greg in the Moosemobile!!
Next race for Moose Racing will be July 2 - at Perris Auto Speedway... and there will be double the trouble Moosemobiles-
Check back often to find out what that means!!!

Better Late Then Never
Thanks to the guys at Mac Guys in Costa Mesa I finally have my trusty Mac back. It's been too long being without my buddy, Mac. Tried
to do updates from the laptop, but somehow managed to goof up the settings for the remote server that hosts this site. SO before I damaged more
with the stroke of a wrong finger, I decided to just wait.

SALUTE TO INDY
The
evening didn't start off on the right foot. Push truck behind the #92 for wheel packing, everyone's face went blank when the car didn't fire.
There goes my wildest fears - Poopie ate something (our pet rabbit) it ended up being an easy fix, thank goodness, bunny is off the
hook one more time. Although I did find out that she did manage to nibble a bit on one of the cords that goes to the engine heater, lucky for her,
it was just a little on the rubber area -- no real damage done. ( She's pushing her rabbit's foot luck ! )
Speaking of rabbit's feet, the Moose Team needs a little of that luck when it comes to pulling qualifying pills! For the 3rd race in a row the little
bingo spinner wasn't so kind to us, popping out #'s in the 50's, putting the Moosemobile one of the last cars to qualify. Greg piloted the car
thru the turns and came in 13th out of a decent sized field of
33 cars. (let's keep our fingers crossed that this nice sized car count stays with us!)
Slated to start the 1st Heat Race outside Row 2 - behind Billy Felts Jr. Welcome back to Billy, after a long absence, but on the front row, after being on the sidelines
for a while. Gotta admit, it made this gal a tad bit nervous. Coming down the back straightaway in anticipation of the green, the inside row took off, but the
outside row got backed up - and Greg got dropped to probably about 7th! ECK!! It didn't take him long to re real the front pack and took 3rd in the Heat behind
Spencer & Miller.
Heat 1 - 1. Spencer, 2. Miller, 3. Bragg, 4. D. Kershaw, 5. Felts, 6. Welton, 7. Waitman, 8. Gaunt. NT.
Heat 2 - 1. Faas, 2. A. Williams, 3. R. VanderWeerd, 4. J. VanderWeerd, 5. Everhart, 6. Bluntach, 7. McCall, 8. Grunkemeyer. 2:54.77.
Heat 3 - 1. R. Williams, 2. Gardner, 3. Mitchell, 4. Perkins, 5. Roa, 6. Bezio, 7. Ballard, 8. Potter. 2:56.81.
Heat 4 - 1. Alexander, 2. Cardey, 3. Argo, 4. Howell, 5. Bender, 6. C. Williams, 7. C. Kersaw, 8. Matlock. 2:53.72.
Semi -1. Gaunt, 2. C. Williams, 3. Roa, 4. Felts, 5. Bluntach, 6. C. Kershaw, 7. Bezio, 8. Ballard, 9. Grunkemeyer, 10. Matlock, 11. Welton, 12. Potter, 13. McCall, 14. Bender. NT.
One thing nice about being in the 1st Heat, and making a direct transfer, you can sit back and enjoy the other 3 Heats and the Semi - watching the track and seeing just what
the tricky dirt is doing.
Line up's for the Main are touchy... if you're way up front, and don't stay up front, ouch! Back of the field, playing defense all the way. What is the lesser of 2 evils -
back of back or smack dab in the middle Whelp, Saturday night the Moosemobile started mid pack. The pace in the front pack was fast and furious - wow, watching the
video provided by Raceway Videos ( Check it out )
www.racewayvideo.com
the action was unbelievable! Of coarse, that night, I saw nothing but the charge that Greg displayed. Running about 10th, Greg must of taken a look around him,
the car set up by the awesome Moose Crew is situated for it's best performance the last 1/2 of the race. And wow did Greg move the #92 up in the closing laps!
Dicing thru traffic high and ow he moved into 3rd - then 2nd and of coarse a yellow flag - arg! Restart at lap 30 - in tribute to Indy the race was 33 laps -
From where the crew was standing looked like Greg brushed the wall coming off of 2 - but he said, he actually hit the birm...his elbows up and on the
wheel Greg was flying!
Checkered flag -
Greg gave it all he had to real in Matt Mitchell - but coming from 13th to 2nd -- heck we'll take it: Hard Charger of the Night and a 2nd place Podium Finish
Matt Mitchell drank the "chocolate milk", Greg in 2nd and Rickie Gaunt in 3rd... Great night for Moose Racing!
1. Matt Mitchell, 2. Greg Bragg, 3. Rickie Gaunt, 4. Nic Faas, 5. Blake Miller, 6. Austin Williams, 7. Cody Kershaw, 8. Rodney Argo, 9. Kenny Perkins, 10. Billy Felts Jr., 11. Rip Williams, 12. Johnny Bluntach, 13. Dakota Kershaw,
14. Richard VanderWeerd, 15. Mike Spencer, 16. Cody Williams, 17. Dennis Howell, 18. Jace VanderWeerd, 19. Greg Alexander, 20. David Cardey, 21. Brody Roa, 22. Ronnie Gardner. NT.

MAY 7TH
Kings Speedway, Hanford
http://www.youtube.com/user/BrokeNRacing
( Take a trip around Hanford from Greg's seat )
It was an early rise and shine call at the Moose Shop, as Tom wanted to hit the road by 6 a.m.. The drive thru LA, over the Grapevine and up north is
about 4 1/2 hours ... but always wanting to be prepared for traffic, flat tires or road problems, Tom prefers to beat the traffic and leave in the wee
hours of the morning. Getting to the track early he can take a leisurely nap giving him the extra zip to be able to do the turn around and head
home right after the races.
Anticipation was high as everyone involved with USAC/CRA wondered how many cars would be on hand for the event. With the economy in Ca. still in the toilet,
a lot of teams haven't been able to make the road trips - so it was nice to have a decent field of 24 cars on hand for the first show in Hanford
in 4 years. A new track promoter, Scott, has worked hard in improving the track and facilities, keeps his base of fans updated on all the haps that
his track has to offer.
A warm sunny Ca. day gave the track a little hell, as even by queenly it had dried quite a bit, making the cars that drew high qualifying pills fits. And of coarse,
the 92 car of Greg was one of the later cars to qualify. After 2 laps, it was 11th. So, 11 out of 24 cars, not too bad.
In an effort to restructure purses, there are a few changes to the program, depending on the car count. Under a 28 field of of cars, 3 heats - top 4 to transfer
the remaining in the B. The B would also transfer 4 cars. SO, the Main would now be a 20 car field, instead of 22 ..
Heat Race # 1 - 1. Faas, 2. Mitchell, 3. Kruseman, 4. Spencer, 5. Faria, 6. J.VanderWeed, 7. Gardner, 8. Bender. 2:55.817
Heat Race # 2 - Greg starting outside Row 2 ... dropping back some in the opening laps, Greg made a bonzi move that took him from 5th to 3rd in one swoop.
Sometimes, you gotta wonder if drivers see an opening, close their eyes and just "go for it" - Cuz, dang, his move scared the bejeebers out of quite a few fans in the stands.
But it was worth getting the transfer to The Main.
Heat Race # 2 - 1. Hawkins, 2. Miller, 3. Bragg, 4. A. Williams, 5. Gaunt, 6. C. Kershaw, 7. C. Williams, 8. D. Kershaw. 2:58.460
Heat # 3 - 1. Cardey, 2. Kaeding, 3. R. Williams, 4. Carlile, 5. R. VanderWeerd, 6. Argo, 7. Bezio, 8. Grunkemeyer. NT.
Semi Main - 1. Faria, 2. Gaunt, 3. R. VanderWeerd, 4. J. VanderWeerd, 5. C. Williams, 6. Gardner, 7. C. Kershaw, 8. Argo, 9. Bender, 10. Grunkemeyer, 11. D. Kershaw. NT
With several cars not transferring out of their heat races, that enabled the 92 car to start on the first row of the Main, on the outside of Rip. As the cars
were pushed off in the staging area, the amount of dust that filled the sky was staggering. Frankly, how anyone could see out there was beyond any imaganation
Greg got the jump on the start to lead the first 2 circuits, but after that the HB Glass sprinter began to slip back. Greg was passed several times, coming home
in 9th place. From what Greg and the crew said, the car had great side bite, but it had no forward grip -- for all you mechanics, you know what that means...
After celebrating the birthdays of Greg and Phil the car was loaded and the debate on wether to drive all the way home, or to stop and doze for a little while.
Common sense prevailed, the slide was popped out, beds made and the Moose Herd opted for a few hours of sleep. Back on the road at 6 am, and home by 8:15.
Thanks to the Moose Herd : Chad, Hal, Rich, Dave, Katie - and the many people that made the trip to cheer on Greg and the Moosemobile:
Jim and Jeannie - Pacific Business Machine
Phil & Eileen King
Pee Wee and Brandy
Greg's Parents - JM & Peggy
We also want to send a huge thank you to Dave Lynema, whom the Moose Crew meet early in the evening. Dave, working tem pori ally
In Visalia, had an in car camera with him and graciously put that camera on the Moosemobile!!
Will be putting his clip up soon ( as soon as I can figure out how to edit it some )
Next race for the Moosemobile
Perris Auto Speedway
Salute To Indy
May 28th!!!
APRIL 3 2011
The wait was finallyover - Pee Wee engine was gonna get a rest ! Richard from RC Performance, the engine guru for Moose Racing had the teams "A"
engine ready for the race at Perris Auto Speedway! This gave the entire Moose Team great anticpation about Saturday Night's competition. Althou Pee-Wee
had done an awesome job during the last 2 races, the added horsepwoer at Perris was sure to be a plus!
22 - 410 sprinters made up the field - but that was unfortuantely reduced to only 21 before qualifying as the #4 Nic Faas/Alexander Racing Silver Bullet
suffered engine woes in hot laps.
The past couple races the results of the pill draw hasn't been quite to the teams favor, relegating them to be in the last group of qualifying cars to chase the clock.
Timing in 12....
With the slim field there would only be 3 Heat Races...
The hard work of Lance Jennings has been paying off as more companies have offered discount certificates or cash for their services to various
drivers for assorted finishing results.
Heat Race #1 - Contingency Sponsors, Huntington Beach Glass & Mirror & Extreme Muffler went to Cody Williams, David Cardey, Ricki Gaunt, Vanderweed, Bender, Waitman & Rip
Heat Race # 2 - Certificates were presented by : Saldana Race Products and Circle Track Products, to Greg Alexander ( who in a 360 engine held off a very hard charging Mike Spencer,
Followed by Sheridan, Bezio, Austin Williams, Grunkmeyer and Potter
Heat Race # 3: Matt Mitchell earned a DJ Safety Certificate. He ran down Greg in the Moosemobile about 1/2 way thru the 10 lap event. Greg was followed by Gardner, Miller, VanderWeerd & Welton.
Main Event action is always action packed when the sprinters take to the track - after moving up from 11th starting spot to 7th - on a restart when the field lined up, I thought I was loosing mu eyesight. There plain in front of me was the 18 car of Sheridan. Okay, I need to wear glasses, but there was no way I would of missed the 18 getting past us! Apparently, it was that Greg had been penalized 2 positions for hitting the
starting cone. According to Greg, along the back straight the field started to bunch, in an effort not to launch the 92 over the top of the pack in front of him, Greg moved out of line, thus hitting the cone.
After a couple of laps a red flag flew. When the crew got to the front straight where the cars come to stop and be out of the way, you could see the steam rising out from under Greg's helmet,
as he was really fired up about the
previous call. The final laps were gonna be interesting with Greg as fired up as he was. Elbows up he began his charge, only to find that somehow after that red flag
with about 5 laps to go he had to fight a sticking throttle pedal. Not wanting to do something dangerous, he let off some and was running in 9th. Coming out of turn 4 to take the checkered the
2 cars that had been moved in front of him as a result from the penalty, had spun, giving Greg back the 2 spots that he had lost ... he dodged the 2 spinning cars and came home 7th!
For the 1st time this 2011 season USAC has brought back the Copilot Program. Unfortunately it didn't play out completely without a flaw. This program is an effort to get
kids more involved with the drivers. Kids sign up prior to Heat Race action, their names are put in a hat and drawn. The 1st name drawn goes with the 1st driver in the Main Event etc.
The kid whose driver wins the Main gets to visit Victory Circle, have his/her photo taken with the winner and earns a bag of goodies ( including 4 comp tickets to any event at
Perris Auto Speedway, (other then the Nationals ). It was found out that the name of the winner had been read just prior to the opening of the crossover gate after the Main.
SO the winner was not present at the Winners Celebration. Please note: that the winner will be invited to participate at the next Perris, USAC/CRA event...and claim his goodies also.
USAC/CRA next action is at Hanford Speedway on May 2nd
MARCH 27TH 2011
When all other tracks in California had already called their events for last nights racing due to the heavy downpours during the week, the new
promoter at Victorville Raceway rolled the dice, and won! The forecast was for heavy clouds, 10-15 mph winds and cold, but No Rain. For once
the Doppler Radar was right. But, they sure hit the nail on the head with COLD though!
360's and 410" made up the 30 car field - but it was quickly reduced to 28 after Seth Wilson and Danny Sheridan both flipped during qualifying.
In hopes that Seth is okay, word was he had sustained a broken knee, Danny, I'm sure very sore, but ok.
Heat race action saw Austin Williams, Cody Williams, David Card victors. Heat Race # 4 was a hard fought win for Greg in the #92,
as he had the likes of Mike Spencer breathing down his tail tank lap after lap.
Brody Roa brought his 360 and won the Semi Main.
The field was now set for the 30 lap Main Event. The first 10 laps or so you could of thrown a blanket
over the top 5 cars
-with Bill Rose (visiting from Indiana) leading the way. By lap 10 the lead was swept away by a hard charging Mike Spencer. At that point
the blanket covering the main front pack needed to be stretched quite a bit as a few more cars got in the mix, making it a tight pack of 9 cars.
For a tight little racetrack anticipation
was that we would see numerous yellow or red flags, but to every ones pleasant surprise, there were only a couple of spins. It was great side by side racing for 30 laps.
Mike Spencer the reigning USAC/CRA Champ taking the win, David Cardey 2nd and Rickie Gaunt rounding out the top 3.
GREG in the Moosemobile started 12th and made his way
to 8th when the checkered flag fell.
With the weather being what it was, out of towners thinking twice before making the trip up the hill to Victorville - the grandstands had a great turn out. The work of the new
promoter, Steve kooks like it paid off. Can't wait to see those cheering fans pack the stands come May when the desert temperature should produce
beautiful sunny skies.
For USAC/CRA's first visit to Victorville Raceway, there were happy racers, thrilled fans and hopefully a satisfied promoter!
The drive home
to Huntington Beach was white knuckled as the fog coming down the hill on the 15 freeway was the thickest I've seen in year. But the rig
pilot Tom was using his hawk eyes watching for many floundering cars that were just creeping and had us and Phil home by 11:17 p.m.. Home and curled up
in a "warm" bed before midnight, who would of thought!
HOPE TO SEE YA ALL AT THE NEXT USAC/CRA RACE APRIL 2ND @ PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY
MARCH 12th, 2011
Opening night for USAC/CRA @ Perris Auto Speedway!!
It's hard to believe that it was time for the first race of 2011 already - although it's actuallyabout a month later then ti's been in the past few years, But it seems how much time
you have off, there is always something that gets overlooked,
With the larger engine needing more repairs than was orignally expected, due to
dollars and cents, the ok to "start" was delayed - thus giving the Moose Team theneed to run Pee-Wee Saturday night. "Pee-Wee" who seems to be the ole
faithful is great for the little tracks, but Perris, well she could really use some extra horses
to be succesfull there. But once again, she pulled through.
After being the 3rd car on the track to challenge the track in qualifying the #92
ended up 21st - the only plus side to that, starting front row of Heat Race One. The green dropped and after 10 laps, Greg brought the Moose Mobile home in 2nd -
and a direct transfer to the Main. Starting 19th in the 22 car field. Greg promptly started his quest
in moving forward.- finishing the 30 laps in 9th!!
MARCH 6TH, 2011
Moose Racing updates: The team is excited to welcome K & N as a product sponsor! K & N offers
a complete line of filters - not just for race cars, but for your personal vehicles too!! Ask your local repair facility if
they offer K & N products!!
Another addition to the Moose Family is Saldana Racing Products, product support, offering Moose Racing
tail tanks/bladders at extremely discounted prices. For Moose Racing this is a greatly appreciated offer
from Saldana Products!!
Behind the scenes there has been a few additions to The Cast of the USAC/CRA - Chris Kearns, the promoter at
Santa Maria, who hosts the 360 Non Wing Series ( amongst other venues also ) and Lance Jennings, the founder of
SCRAFAN.Com. The addition of these 2 is so awesome and will hopefully keep our series heading in the right direction.
Though hard efforts by Lance, the series has been acquiring Contingency Sponsors - certificates from several businesses that will
be presented to drivers for several different accomplishments. At the present time announcements have been made
welcoming: Saldana Racing Products, Extreme Mufflers and Huntington Beach Glass & Mirror. As time progresses,
there are high hopes for adding many more contributors to this contingency award program.
There was also a committee formed at the later part of last season, a Promotion Committee that mains focus is to
"get the word out about USAC/CRA Non Wing Sprint Cars". At the present time the committee is made up of
Julie Shiosaki, Lisa Ersce, Shelly & Steve Ostling, Lance Jennings, Chris Kearns and Laurie Sertich. Ideas are bounced off of
each other in the attempt to get more fans in the stands, make the drivers more accessible to fans, to include the fans
more in the raceday activities etc. Everyone, car owners, drivers, pit crews, fans in the stands, EVERYONE, needs to consider
themselves part of the promotion group. We all need to work harder to promote sprint car racing, or in the next few years,
it will be gone from Southern California!
March 26th, there will be another 1st for the Association - USAC/CRA will be debuting at Victorville Speedway.
With the track acquiring new promoters it is in hopes that the initial visit will bring positive results - thus sealing
the deal for 2 more races later in the year.
Hope to see you at Perris and Victorville!!!
January 2011
Whelp, the 2010 season has been over since November and there just hasn't been any time to get this site update. So, today,
I'm making an attempt to catch up on months gone by. But what should of taken about an hour-has now been 4!! When performing
a system upgrade on my Mac, apparently it isn't compatible with the software that I have been using forever to work on the website.
Tried performing a reload of the program, it just locked up the computer, so, I"I've downloaded a newer version... let's just hope I
can figure out to up after updates have been done. I'm afraid that I know just enough to be dangerous.
The 2010 season can sure be described as the Thrill Of Victory and the Agony of Defeat. It was definitely an up and down
year.
Great runs - until last laps on 3 occasions when either the car failed, or we were taken out, a third place finish towards the
end of the season, and a Main Event Win in April at "The Pas!" But the huge crash on Oct. 22 that destroyed all but the steering wheel and seat, made the
last couple of races a real struggle. But the Moose Herd hung in there, finished the season - 7th in Driver Points and 6th In Car Owner Points.
The off season was more than busy. For over a year we had been been planning a New Years Eve party. With lots of Google searches we were able to
locate the DJ that kept the tunes cranking at our wedding 17 years prior. It was finding him that sealed the deal to host our 2nd New Years Eve Party.
A lot of hours by friends and family and us went into pulling this party off. And when you as a host can say that there not one thing that we would of
changed - you consider your party a success. Going into this shindig I had said, this is it, I'm getting way to old for all this work, no more. Well,
so much for that, Tom is already talking about another NY Eve party in a couple of years from now. Heck, it's gonna take me that long to recover
from this last one. Photos will be posted soon ( I hope )
With the party over, it was time to turn our heads back to racing: were we or weren't we gonna compete in this upcoming 2011
USAC/CRA Season. The cost to repair the engine, replace rear ends, bird cages, shocks etc that were all taken out at the end of 2010
is staggering. Our initial decision was to hold off a couple months and see what happens at the business ( since, like everyone else, business
has been slow ). But 2 weeks ago we finally gave Richard at RC Performance the ok to fix the engine - parts have been ordered to replace
the ones that were destroyed and if all stays on track - Moose Racing should be ready for the 1st race in March.
Giving RC the ok put us in a better frame of mind for us attending the USAC West Coast banquet.Joining us for the evening were Moose Sponsors and good friends, Phil & Eileen King.
The general consensus of most people is,oh,no,not another Awards banquet. And I'll agree, it's not either of ours favorite thing to do,
but there needs to be support and positive thoughts for our series.
For this reason I have to say that I was disappointed in the lack of support the banquet received from USAC/CRA car owners and drivers.
Knotts Berry Farm Hotel was the setting and I don't know about everyone else, but for a banquet, the food was amazingly good!!!
As the evening was coming to a close, the premier series, 410 sprint car Champion, Mike Spencer, had accepted his award and made his thank yous,
Janie Rolfson took the stage to present The Billy Wilkerson Award. Billy a long time pillar in Southern California racing, driver, CRA President,
success full car owner for years, had passed away 2 years ago. Billy and Anne have been looked up to by drivers, car owners, fans, officials, well,
basically everyone involved in racing in Southern California.
An award was created in his honor, representing contribution, success and passion for
the sport of sprint car racing. You can be assured that when Janie called Tom & I, we were not only shocked, but speechless! ( and for us,
that doesn't happen very often )
We are both very humbled at the receipt of this award and will do all within our powers to make Anne proud that she
selected us.( Good thing we decided to race again this 2011 season! )
